Middle class memes flood X as Nirmala Sitharaman presents Budget 2025

As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents the Union Budget on February 1, experts are weighing in with their expectations, and the middle class is hoping for some much-needed tax relief.

But while financial analysts dissect potential policies, social media users have taken a slightly different approach: They have turned the budget into meme gold.

Social media users have found creative ways to express their thoughts, from taking inspiration from Nimbu-mirchi to “safeguard” middle-class interests to referencing the hit web series Panchayat.

Take a look at a few memes here:

One user channelled Bollywood legend Mithun Chakraborty. posting his famous line, “Tum ameer ho, khushnaseeb ho, mai gareeb hu, badnaseeb hu” a not-so-subtle jab.

One of the users did not miss the chance to remember the legendary budget cartoons by RK Laxman.

Another user gave a hilarious twist to the classic Mughal-e-Azam scene, referencing Anarkali’s fate to represent middle-class taxpayers.

Meanwhile, the Panchayat fandom came alive with clips perfectly summing up pre-budget anxities.

For presenting the Union Budget 2025-26 today,

Sitharaman opted for a white saree with a dull gold border, with Madhubani art prints in black . The Union Minister paired the saree with a bright red blouse.

The Budget Session officially began on January 31 with an address by President Droupadi Murmu.
