The first three digits of this number are English letters. It can be any letter from AAA to ZZZ. It is decided according to the latest running series. The fourth letter shows the category of taxpayer and tells in which category the cardholder is included. For example, if the fourth letter is C then it means company, whereas if it is P then it means individual. The fifth digit of the PAN card shows your surname. This is the first letter of your surname. If your surname is Sharma then the fifth character of your PAN number will be S. All the letters after the fifth letter of the PAN number are decided by the Income Tax Department.
