‘Bharat’ To Replace ‘India’ In NCERT School Textbooks Under New Curriculum Across Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand School Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat announced on Thursday that the recommendations of a high-level committee established by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) would be implemented throughout the state.

The NCERT’s committee for social sciences, formed to revise the school curriculum, has recommended that “India” be replaced with “Bharat” in all class textbooks, “classical history” be introduced instead of “ancient history,” and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) be included in the syllabus for all subjects.

However, NCERT Chairman Dinesh Saklani has stated that no decision has been made on the panel’s suggestions.

However, Vandana Garbyal, the director of the State Educational and Training Institute, received orders on Thursday from Uttarakhand Education Minister Rawat to include the NCERT panel’s suggestions into the state’s textbooks.

According to Rawat, the decision to incorporate the Indian Knowledge System into the curriculum has already been made by the state administration. He claimed that the curriculum will feature the book “Hamari Virasat” in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.

The book would be introduced in classes 6 to 8 in the first phase, he said, adding that a five-member team has been constituted under the chairmanship of Garbyal to compile the book.
